just a couple of silly pictures to share from our hike today (the one of both of the girls was from a couple of days ago). we're one tough family!we did another hike in the canyon area today. we were hoping to spot a bear or two, but no dice. we saw a lot of bear evidence along the path.. . but no bear. :( we did see some mud pots up close on a back country hike, beautiful rolling meadows with wildflowers and stellar views, an amazingly turquoise lake, the upper yellowstone river falls up close... and a line of 20 cars at a dead stand still while a bison hung out in the middle of the road. :)

We just got home from Yellowstone on Monday! We saw black bear, grizzly, wolves, bighorn sheep, and of course lots of bison and elk! Make sure you check out Lamar Valley that's where we saw the black bear and sheep. Hayden Valley had the grizzlies (mom and cub) and wolves! You are good getting pictures up already! That is my project tonight...dowload picts! Have fun the rest of your stay!

The reason you aren't seeing any bears is because they are intimidated by your family's muscle definiton... Cover up and they will come out of the wood works I'm sure.
Your trip looks like a blast. I am living through you...my dream is to get there via rented RV one day!

...When I was a kid (about your girls age) we went to yellowstone for the first time. The photo of the bison in the road looks very much like when we were there except that it was bears! Thats right, we have several photos of bears acutally climbing on our car, and walking down the streets. Then when I was a teen, we went back, by then they had moved all the bears up into the mountains. The only place to see a bear then was at the dump... And yep we went to the dump... The one thing I remember about the first trip was my grandpa Charlie telling us kids, "If I see a bear in the street, I'd put my arm around it and feed it a PB&J sandwish...Boy those were the days... Have a wonderful trip.
