if these walls could speak

if these walls could speak

they would say... "paint me! paint me!" but what do you do with a boring old white wall that you seriously don't want to paint? blik it!

i found out about this super cool company from my dear friend elizabeth. she's done some very cool stuff on her walls with them. (only hers included cool colors of paint on the walls too... and this is why i look up to her so. she's an overachiever!)

here's how it works. you cut them out off their mother sheet. tape them to your wall to arrange your pattern. rub the crap out of them to get them to stick to the sticky stuff (tried several tools and the ice scraper beat out the credit card, the pastry scraper and the fingernails.) then you stick it to the wall and burnish it again with your tool of choice. peel the sticky stuff off and wallah! (i actually used my rubber brayer to make sure all of the edges were stuck down after i peeled the sticky stuff off.)

now my boring old white wall looks pretty darn spiffy. my arm is a little sore from the burnishing... so can i count this as my exercise for the day???

**note to stan** since i'm posting this here, it's one less thing for me to spring on you when you get home! hee hee. oh, i picked up some new lamps too. ;)

that's cool! did you try the bone folder, or was that too small? I just cut some vinyl today for my bathroom.

yah, the bone folder was too small... but the ice scraper was quite handy. although you may have a hard time coming across one in hawaii! :)

I too loved elizabeth's blik. Now seeing what you have created makes me want to give it a try. Our kitchen and dining is all white and I am just not wanting to paint either.

Those look GREAT Noel! Very creative and MUCH better than painting the whole room. So much can go wrong there. Plus that wall is HUGE:)

Very unique...I like the way you patterned them. Instant spiff!

I have seen these before...I was thinking of getting the owl on a branch for my daughter's room.

Very non-commital!

Love Love Love the wall! How cute are these!?! How would you ever remove them if you "had" to?
Thank you so much for your photo tips! Really appreciated them and will try them out! However, just wanted to ask you about the flash to see if you have any tips. When I turn off the flash my picutres are very blurry and when I use the flash I cannot get my kids to keep their eyes open. I have a wonderful dslr and have so many problems that I have become so frustrated I hardly ever use it and just go back to my little camera. Any tips would be appreciated! Thanks, Amy =)

I see what you mean about the "sore arms" now. (I especially like the picture of you "in action" LOL)

Nice job, girl.

So very cool! I have a bunch of these vinyl sayings that I bought from some home party company. Can't remember the name right now. Anyway, I put mine on cabinet doors from the "as-is" area at IKEA. They turned out to make great wall hangings around the house. I ended up using my pampered chef scrapper. I use it for some of mylarger rub-ons too. lol

Does this mean I don't have to paint the walls when I get home?... SWEET!!

Noel that wall looks awesome! So cool!

hi amy,
the blik thingies come off easily. you just peel them off the wall. they're good for even the most non-committal. :)

and as far as flash tips go... have you tried bumping up your iso to the highest setting? mine goes up to 1600, but most cameras go up to at least 800. that helps with the blur. email me with your camera type, and maybe i can help a little more. :)

the yearbook pages i did awhile back weren't from a template. they were just something i made up.

This is a cool technique for the walls, but it was your shopping "disclaimer" to Stan that cracked me up!!! :-)
