bridges, school and pillows, oh my!

bridges, school and pillows
oh my!

we went out to a picnic today for stan's squadron... whenever we head out toward the base we always cross my favorite bridge in washington. so we stopped to walk across it on our way back. it's such a beautiful and amazing bridge surrounded by the most amazing landscape that seems new every time we pass it.

stan & the girls on the bridge

torrey & emma checking out the story behind deception pass

school starts next week... so we went to check out the class lists today, meet the girls' teachers and drop off their school supplies

and guess what i've been making...
you guessed it... pillows

i picked up some funky fabrics from the fabric store the other day to make some throw pillows for my living room. i am loving how they've turned out. they add so much color to the living room... not to mention how much cheaper it is to make your own! yowza! but now that i'm in the pillow-making-groove i'm thinking i should make some each season just for kicks. (we'll see if that actually happens... but it's a fun idea anyway!) the best thing about them is... you only need to know how to sew mostly straight lines. :)

and the side shot is just another dose of kudos for my fabulous husband. i picked up these end tables (and a couple of others not in the pic) from a couple of antique stores and a garage sale (thanks jennifer!). my wonderful husband stripped and painted all of them this cool turquoise color for me. isn't he the greatest!?! :)

hope you had a great thursday, too!

noel's scraproom tour from noel culbertson on Vimeo.

apparently my girls have caught the video bug... this scraproom tour was thought up by them after reading some blog comments. torrey was the wonderful video assistant and emma was the tour guide helper... and there is even a guest appearance by my handsome hubby in uniform. so if you're sitting here on a saturday night with nothing to do... we've got a video to help you kill sometime. :)

What a fun giveaway! You may just covert us all over to the digital/hybrid world! These products make it so tempting.... :)

Thanks for providing such great inspiration on your blog. I'm so glad that you are settling in to your new home -it's can seem like such an overwhelming process! We recently relocated to the Pacific NW (yea for Washington!) and I was so cranky without my scrapbooking stuff! Next time I'll pack my paper first!

I always enjoying looking at your fabulous layouts and especially adore the cute ones with your daughters! With a son and three nephews I love seeing your sweet, girly layouts. (Can you tell that I'm desperate for some pink in my life! - LOL) Their hair and outfits are just too cute!

Take care,
M :)

Oh, I would love to try out the whole digital process...kind of shy about it for some reason. But with you offering digi and "real" goodies, it's enough to make me go hybrid. Plus with all boys in the house, a girl could use a little glitzy bling!

Thanks for sharing...the goodies and yourself.

PS: and I agree with hockeygirl19 that you should autograph the templates CD!! :)

nanny mcphee turns into the toothless wonder

nanny mcphee turns into the toothless wonder

it's crazy how much her look changed in just a minute of bloody tooth pulling. i know i've said and thought this a million times, but they just grown up so stinkin' fast! we're off to take the toothless wonder out for her favorite meal... spaghetti to celebrate this wild and crazy growing up moment.

sneaking in a sunrise

sneaking in a sunrise

one of my fondest memories of growing up were the little moments that i had with my parents. when i was a kid my dad would occasionally wake me up in the wee hours of morning (more like the middle of the night) and take me out for hot chocolate at dennys. we'd sit up at the bar and talk about life. i felt so grown up and important... and loved. it's funny how those little moments seem to add up to more than all of the big planned events combined.

this morning emma and i got up early to have some coffee and enjoy the late summer sunrise.

she told me all about the dream she had last night. she was on a beautiful beach and there were jewels and gold for sand, like waving gold in the water. you could breath under water and there were real mermaids... and their tails were sparkly... and it was beautiful.

any given monday

this evening i met my husband in town for dinner at our favorite mexican restaurant in town. while i was waiting for him to arrive i checked out one of the local boutiques in the same building. i stumbled upon this sign. it was just too good to pass up! i am the ever so far from organized member of our marriage, and my husband well...let's just say opposites attract. now i'll have an answer for all of that "are you going to put that away?" talk!

prescription with the best side effects

prescription
with the best side effects

while at the cha (craft & hobby asso.) tradeshow in chicago a few weeks ago i got to see my super cool friend gretchen... despite my valiant attempts, she'd still rather stay in alabama than move to washington. to make a long story longer, gretchen told me about a new kit club that her very cool local store had started called scripts for your monthly dose of scrapbook meds... i mean inspiration. and what better to cure the common inspiration delay than a creative kit full of fun scrap schtuff! anyway, here are a few fun projects i made yesterday from the cool kit. (sorry there is no journaling on either layout... my computer is still in a temporary location while we do some wiring, so the printer isn't hooked up yet. ah, the joys of moving!)

summer musings

summer musings

i think in every parent's life there comes a moment when you are beaming with pride...
you are all smiles because you have just realized your child looks just like....
your yard art.

but really... we're enjoying the sweet days of summer. the girls were out picking wild flowers in the lawn (that needs to be mowed). but those are the things the good life is made of. the things that we worry about getting done, kids see as an opportunity for relishing a moment. i love that. makes me long for the days when i'd sit and watch a bug crawl up a blade of grass for an hour.

the in-laws are in town for the week, and i thought this pic totally summed up a child's adoration for their grandparents.

enjoy the last few days fo summertime bliss.
